An active bystander is someone who not only witnesses a situation but takes steps to speak up or step in to keep a situation from escalating. MaHRTI’s new Bystander Intervention for Substance Use Situations training teaches effective skills for intervening when witnessing a conflict, crisis situations, or someone in a vulnerable situation. This session focuses on situations where substance use may play a role. Learning active bystander skills can empower people towards self-determination and autonomy. Situations specific to the use of alcohol, stimulants, opioids, and hallucinogens will be discussed and explored.
